Hier findet Ihr Informationen über
amerikanische Feuerschiffe

Insgesamt hat es 179 Schiffe gegeben, die im Wasser um die Vereinigten Staaten dienten und die Schifffahrt vor schweren Unglücken schützten. Feuerschiffe heißen in den USA "lightships" und sind in der Regel rot gestrichen und tragen den Namen der Station, der sie zugewiesen wurden, in weißer Schrift auf beiden Seiten des Rumpfes. Diese Namen sind allerdings nicht die Schiffsnamen, weil sie ja von Station zu Station geändert wurden. Amerikanische Lightships werden durch eine Zeichen-Zahlenkombination, wie LV 103 WAL 526 gekennzeichnet. Heute sind von den 179 Schiffen nur noch 15 Schiffe übrig, von denen allerdings keine mehr im aktiven Dienst sind. Das Interesse der amerikanischen Bevölkerung an der Erhaltung dieser historischen Schiffe ist sehr groß, daher sind die Lightships in sehr gutem Zustand und als Museumsschiffe für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich.
